St. Albert, the oldest and largest community in the north
region, offers history buffs, gardening, and shopping

sites such as Mission Hill, including Father Lacombe
Chapel, a provincial historic site, the Musée Heritage
Museum, the Michif Cultural & Resource Institute,
and the newly opened St. Albert Train Station, part of
the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park, are all great opportunities
to discover St. Albert's rich history.
Those interested
in gardening can spend hours ambling through the St.
Albert Botanic Park, with more than 18 acres of blooms
and foliage, including the largest established public
rose garden in Alberta. Across the Sturgeon River is
Hole's Greenhouse. Established
by renowned gardener, Lois Hole and her family, this
garden centre is open year-round. Wander through their
stunning show garden and vast array of perennials, roses,
trees, and indoor plants. The A.C.T. Celebration Garden,
is a quiet oasis located on the north side of the Sturgeon
River. Beautiful flowerbeds mingled with sculptures,
provide a peaceful setting to enjoy.
A visit to St. Albert
would not be complete without experiencing Western Canada's
Largest Outdoor Farmers' Market.
Every Saturday, July to the end of September, a huge
selection of fresh picked fruit, vegetables, baked goods,
and meat products, along with unique crafts and entertainment,
are available rain or shine. Adjacent to the market on
St. Anne and St. Thomas Streets, is the downtown core
of St. Albert. Several art galleries, shops, and restaurants
can fulfill your shopping or dining needs. Don't
miss the murals, sculptures and artistic benches, designed
to enhance the historic heart of St. Albert.
